Objective: to study immediate and long-term results of treatment in patents with gallbladder cancer.

Materials and Methods. the study of one hundred thirty patients with gallbladder cancer (39 male and 91 female) treated in 1995-2012 in the Department of Thoraco-Abdominal Oncology of Rostov Cancer Research Institute included.

Results. Between 1995 and 2012 130 patients with gallbladder cancer staged I-IV were treated in the Department of Thoraco-Abdominal Oncology of Rostov Cancer Research Institute. Average age was 64.2 years. Adenocarcinoma with different degrees of differentiation was verified in 80 cases, 15 patients had adeno-solid cancer, 7 patients had poorly differentiated carcinoma and one case revealed squamous-cell carcinoma. Thirty four patients had locally advanced gallbladder cancer, progressive of the disease with hepatic metastases was detected in 96 cases. Radical surgical treatment was performed in 44 cases, 7 patients of them underwent regional chemotherapy, system chemotherapy was held in 37 cases. Palliative surgery with following system chemotherapy was performed in 53 cases. The best survival rate and recurrence-free period were in the radically operated group with following postoperative chemotherapy.

Conclusion. These data suggest that combined modality therapy of patients with gallbladder cancer is an effective method of treatment allowing to increase the survival rate. Locoregional chemotherapy in patients with gallbladder cancer is justified and can significantly extend the life of these patients.

KEY WORDS: gallbladder cancer, regional chemotherapy.
