Musculoskeletal system has several functions which are of mechanical and biological importance. Mechanical skeletal functions are represented by its ability for protection, support and movement. The support is achieved by soft tissue and organ attachments to different skeletal segments. The movement are possible due to bones which are long and short levers interconnected by mobile joints and driven by muscles.

The objective. To analize the role of osteosynthesis in the surgical treatment of patients with skeletal tumors. Development of tumor in bones includes impairment of structure and differentiation of tissues as sequence of mechanical strength decrease. Bone fractures are caused by force which is accompanied by rotational acceleration and centripetal force perpendicular to bone axis, because of imposed force deformation of curve and fatigue. The results showed that restoration of bone strength and resistance to deformation was achieved by osteosynthesis in surgical treatment of patients with skeletal tumors. Thus, bone construction serves as bone splintage due to compression, support, contact and protection.

KEY WORDS: osteosynthesis, tumor, metastasis, pathological fracture.
